This previous Sunday, October 20, Phi Sigma Sigma sorority held their annual Lip Sync event. The event was on behalf of the Phi Sigma Sigma Foundation and raised close to $2,250, a large improvement from previous years. The Foundation supports school and college readiness for children around the world by supplying scholarships, disaster relief through their Twin Ideals Fund, and by funding leadership development programs.
The event included around 200 attendees, not including the sorority and fraternity members who participated in the contest. The Greek organizations included Phi Sigma Sigma, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Theta Xi, Phi Sigma Kappa, Beta Theta Pi, and Sigma Nu.
The event has each fraternity engage in Lip Sync battles against one another. This year, the theme was boy bands, so each fraternity chose a boy band and made a 5 to 10 minute lip sync/dance to that band’s music. In between the fraternities, members of Phi Sigma Sigma sorority dance to a band of their choosing, with this year’s selection being the Jonas Brothers.
The judges were the presidents of Delta Phi Epsilon, Theta Phi Alpha, and Alphi Phi, who picked a winner after the fraternities had all performed.
The winners of the event were Sigma Phi Epsilon and Theta Xi, who performed Big Time Rush and Maroon 5, respectively. Other contenders were Phi Sigma Kappa as Queen, Beta Theta Pi as Backstreet Boys, and Sigma Nu as NSYNC.
