Women’s soccer extend their winning streak and are now ranked No. 18 in NCAA D-III

Six wins in a row for the Stevens women’s soccer team. Through each game, the Ducks have shown strong versatility and perseverance. Every player is looking for much more this season, and their record sure proves it. They currently have a 8-3-1 (wins-losses-ties) record and have a No. 18 ranking in NCAA Division III.

Since September 15, the Ducks have not lost a game. Fending off teams like No. 13 ranked Arcadia and FDU-Florham, the Ducks have been unstoppable.

To start their winning streak, on September 21, Stevens traveled to Scranton, Pennsylvania, in a closely-contested match. With both goals being assisted by sophomore Ally Wanzor, seniors Julia Panko and Gabby Saade scored extremely early goals in the match as Stevens held off Scranton 2-1.

Then, the Ducks returned home to face off against Vassar and Arcadia. Four different players — sophomore Fiona Matthews and freshmen Olivia Panko, Gabby Saade, and Ally Wanzor — found the back of the net and led Stevens to a 4-1 victory against Vassar.

In arguably the most thrilling match this season, Stevens took down previously undefeated No. 13 ranked Arcadia 1-0 in double overtime. Fiona Matthews gave the Ducks the lone goal that propelled them to victory.

After the thrilling upset, the Ducks had to go to Pennsylvania again to face off against Misericordia University. In this match, Julia Panko was able to score a late winner to come away with the win and send Stevens home happy.

Back in Hoboken, to continue the winning streak, Stevens played against Wilkes University and FDU-Florham on October 12 and October 15, respectively. Ally Wanzor and freshman Catalina Abusada scored to send the Ducks over Wilkes University. Then, in a mid-week matchup, junior Erica O’Kelly scored her first goal of the season and clinched Stevens’ six-game winning streak.

These games were vital in the women’s soccer team season. It skyrocketed the Ducks to No. 18 ranked in NCAA D-III. This team looks ready and prepared to keep that ranking.
