Hosted by Farmingdale State College, the Fall Invitational including the Stevens golfers took place from September 28 to 29. Stevens finished in 6th place out of 12 schools thanks to huge contributions from junior Luke Labenski and sophomore Eddie Sot. Both players shot a 14-over par, which led them to a tie in 15th place out of 60 individual golfers.
The single-round score of 77 matched Labenski’s second-lowest round of his career. On Sunday, Sot was able to trim two shots off his Saturday score and finish with a 154, the same as Labenski.
It was a two-day total score for each golfer. On Saturday, Stevens finished with a 311 in total from all five golfers, and on Sunday, Stevens finished with a 314 in total. As a result, Stevens finished with 625 strokes and were only 6 strokes behind 5th place and 24 strokes behind the leader, Rosemont College.
Sophomore A.J. Iacobellis shot a 78 in each of the tournament’s two rounds to finish 16-over for the tournament and place 23rd. In his first collegiate tournament, freshman Eegan McDermott finished 35th, which is a solid finish as he is still getting acclimated to college life. A fellow freshman Duck, Brian Spector, shot an 83 in each round to finish off Stevens’ weekend.
Each of them may not have had the best day, but they held their own and proved their strength and mettle. The team looked very put together, and they look ready to keep driving ahead.
In all, Stevens showed they had a pursuit to win and to play their best golf. As Ducks, they look pretty confident in their golfing game and ready to move on to much more. Considering the addition of two new freshmen, finishing in 6th out of 12 is not a bad result.
The golfing Ducks play again in West Chester, Pennsylvania, for the two-day Montgomery Cup, hosted by Rosemont College. The event is being held at Concord Country Club.
