Women’s volleyball Ducks dominate SUNY New Paltz

The Stevens women’s volleyball team grabbed a 3-0 victory over SUNY New Paltz last Saturday inside Canavan Arena. It was a matchup that had “Ducks” written all over it.

Casey King, a senior, posted her second straight double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs to help Stevens move to 5-6 on the year. Stevens have won three out of their last four matches and look to be on their way to many more.

In the first set, Stevens seemed to pull away and established a 14-6 lead, but New Paltz was resilient and did not want to lose. As a result, they clawed their way back into the set. However, thanks to some great plays from freshman Ava Smithing, the Ducks shut them down, 25-21, in the first set.

When Stevens led 21-18 in the second set, New Paltz tried to get back into it, but failed again. Sophomore Kathleen Reigner had a wonderful save which saved the second set for the Ducks to win it, 25-19.

As the third set began, Stevens truly showed their hitting power and their capabilities. The Ducks jumped out to a 15-3 lead in a nice third set. The Ducks, with the help of seniors Sara Hain and Casey King, were able to cruise to a third set victory and a victory on the day (25-21, 25-19, 25-13).

In total, Stevens had 37 kills and improved their record to 5-6. The Ducks also did a lot of work at the service line in the win, posting a total of 10 service aces led by three from freshman Enkhsanaa Enkhbayar.

It was a picture-perfect match for the Ducks, and they look like they are hitting their stride. They have important conference matches upcoming and they will need performances like these to continue improving their record.

Everyone must keep an eye on the scoreboard because I have a feeling this women’s volleyball team is ready to win and keep on winning. They are Ducks, after all!
