On Wednesday, members of the student body, faculty, and staff cheered on the graduating seniors as they processed down from Walker Gym to Babbio Patio, in a tradition the school started last year called “The Wittpenn Walk.” This tradition is the counterpart to another tradition that the school started simultaneously, having the incoming freshmen process up Wittpenn Walk at convocation, according to Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs Sara Klein. The two traditions are intended to indicate the beginning and end of the student’s academic career here at Stevens.
The event drew mixed emotions from the group of seniors. “It’s good to reflect on our experiences,” said Matt Fiebel, one of the graduating seniors. However, some were not happy about the construction on Wittpenn Walk. In John DiBari’s opinion, “It’s sad that Wittpenn is closed,” referring to the construction that prevented the procession from occurring on Wittpenn Walk proper. Food and drinks were provided to the seniors, as they gathered one last time on Babbio Patio before graduation.
