RedShift hosted its first RedShift Showcase Night, complete with music, art, and performances, last Thursday Night in Babbio Atrium. Additionally, RedShift hosted an art auction to benefit Kristi Garino.
“Hosting a student art showcase has been a goal for RedShift since day one,” said Sergio Scardigno, Managing Editor of RedShift. While RedShift launched its website earlier this semester, Scardigno believes viewing the works in person creates “a different, more engaging experience.” Scardigno will serve as Editor-In-Chief of RedShift for the next calendar year.
RedShift’s general body and e-board curated the art showcased at the event. Johnathan Brown, Emma Seiwell, Jasmine Hoagland, Sarah Hoogenboom, Sergio Scardigno, Josh Bardsley, Tariq Charelston, Camille Simon-Al-Araji, Aimee Rose Gamboa, Antonio Elters, Kenneth Poser, and Khianna Byrne showcased visual art at the event.
Matt Renzo from Cool and Good, Erwiin, Rose Image, and Josh FTI performed at the event. “All those guys have performed around Stevens a bunch and know how to get a crowd going,” said Scardigno. Additionally, RedShift showcased spreads featuring interviews with performers Rose Image and Josh FTI.
During the event, RedShift auctioned off 4×4 prints of student art, as well as magazine-sized prints of the displayed spreads. The auction raised $65 for Kristi Garino. “We’re super happy with that number, as it was entirely generated from the student body wanting student art (and obviously wanting to help Kristi as well),” said Scardigno.
“We see ourselves being exactly what we’ve been trying to be this whole time — a medium through which students can have their art displayed for their peers to appreciate and enjoy. We want to foster a creative community on campus,” said Scardigno. 112 people attended the showcase, and Scardigno hopes to see some of those people attend their GBMs on Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. in Peirce 216.
