Olivia Scott and Julia Dwight, both freshman Business and Technology majors, have planned this year’s TechFest as the Co-Festivities Chairs of Stevens’ Entertainment Committee (EC). Both of them are passionate about campus events, and have devoted a large amount of their time to planning several, including Founder’s Day Ball, Earth Day, and TechFest.
Scott grew up attending concerts and developed an interest in the work that goes on behind the scenes. When she came to Stevens, she instantly knew she wanted to be a part of EC. Similarly, Dwight saw pictures of the annual Tree Lighting event and decided to join as well. Now holding the position of Co-Festivities Chairs, the girls are hopeful that TechFest will be a night to remember. Dwight explained, “This should be a fun night with lots of music and things to do, whether it’s your first TechFest or your last.”
The process of choosing and booking Jesse McCartney as the headliner was not simple. It was a joint decision between Student Life and EC that also included an online poll for students to fill out. The artists that made it onto the poll had to fit within EC’s budget for TechFest, and they had to be available on the date that was chosen. Scott expressed, “This is a professional event. We have to hire professional engineers, and there’s a lot of formalities. We’re only freshmen, and we’re still trying to learn the ropes of that. I hope students come out and have fun, listen to some good music, and enjoy time with their friends before finals week hits.”
