On January 19, 2019, the Stevens Women’s Fencing Team dominated their competitions at Army, achieving one of their greatest victories.
The women won all of their matches against Hunter College (27-0), City College of New York (26-1), Detroit Mercy (25-2), Drew (20-7), Cleveland State (22-5), and Navy (24-3).
Each fencer even obtained a winning record for the day. With the epee fighting swords: Julie McEldoon 16-1, Teny Odaimi 14-4, Amanda Choy 11-2, and Christine Chan 5-0. Then with the foil swords: Nicole Strezewski 12-2, Kayleigh Kubit 9-0, Sara Persau 8-2, Allison Urban-Spillane 6-0, Caitlin Uang 5-2, Rachel Rosa 3-1, and Ashley Yu 3-1. With the sabre swords: Michelle Drobish 14-0, Julia Yang 13-1, Kiera Barnes 13-1, Bayla Gellerstein 4-0, Gabriela Onelli 4-0, and Kian Wissemann 4-0.
The impending winter storm that weekend cut the fencers’ day a little short as they were unable to compete against Army; however, the girls were able to walk away with the first place trophy for the most wins of the day. Student Assistant Coach Erin Hatcher was quick to exclaim that this “was a pretty great day” for the team here at Stevens.
The fencing team was undefeated and 7 won more than 10 individual bouts.
Great job ladies!
