In efforts to gather feedback and improve relations with students, the Public Relations (PR) Committee of the Student Government Association hosted the first ever SGA Speed Dating, on November 1 from 9 to 11 pm.
Promotional material, created by PR Committee member, Nasir Montalvo, consisted of Tinder-themed posters of different SGA officials. The event had a black and red color scheme, which was displayed with the red and black tablecloths, and red rose centerpieces. Candles, rose petals, and champagne flutes were other decorations at the event. To add to the elegance of the event, upscale hors d’œuvres were served, including coconut shrimp, mini chicken cordon bleu bites, mozzarella carrozza, toasted brie, almond, and raspberry pastry puffs, fresh mozzarella with tomatoes and balsamic glaze, assorted pastries, chocolate covered strawberries, and sparkling cider.
This event provided a platform for Senators and Cabinet members to engage with their constituents. SGA members were able to discuss their initiatives and get feedback on these initiatives from the attendees. This platform also allowed for students to discuss grievances with their fellow students, allowing the SGA to be able to gauge what improvements the student body wants to see.
Elina Tuder, Chair of the PR Committee, began planning for the event in September. Tuder believed the event to be a success, with some students coming up to her and expressing their enjoyment, “and wondered if I planned to host it again in the future, which I hope I do!”
134 people checked in to the event over its duration, leaving no food behind.
