The SGA hosted its first Freshman Forum in Babbio Atrium on Wednesday, October 10. This event was intended to replace the Freshman Senate Debate that has been hosted in past years. Rather than debating with their fellow classmates, 18 freshmen gave short introductions about themselves — their name, place of birth, major, and, most importantly, ideas they have for improving Stevens. They all came from different backgrounds, with some having held many leadership positions and others looking for this position as their first experience. One cited improvement was that the candidates wanted to improve storm runoff at Stevens. Other ideas included improving the social environment, creating more opportunities for professors to work with students, and improving the variety of the food in Pierce. Questions were not asked of the candidates, as they were in previous years. This was a much less formal event, in which attending students could simply engage in a conversation with the candidates after their short introductions. There are 13 open spots for which the 18 freshmen are competing. Voting is open until 1 p.m. on October 15. Student can vote at www.stevens.edu/vote.
