The Middle States Accreditation process is essential to ensuring that the degrees given by Stevens Institute of Technology maintain their value. In May of last year, Stevens Institute of Technology was rigorously examined in several categories by the Middle States Accreditation Team. This team ensured that each area of interest regarding the Institution has been properly assessed and accommodated for, ensuring maximum potential of the school. Every five years, this report reaffirms the adherence and progress of certain standards concerning various aspects of Stevens.
In the evaluation, Stevens has excelled in maintaining student- and faculty-led research, professors that are experts in their field, and excellent employment rates after graduation from Stevens. Notably, only 27% of students are involved in on-campus activities, a surprising figure considering that there are 91 student organizations on campus. Evaluations such as these are extremely beneficial as they allow Stevens students, faculty, and staff to better understand aspects of the school that they may be able to improve.
According to Marianna Fleming, Vice President of Academic Affairs, the MSCHE (Middle States Commission on Higher Education) held various focus groups with Stevens students during a span of a week. Students were able to express their concerns and thoughts in these focus groups in order to pinpoint improvements the Stevens campus and curriculum may need. The Student Government Association (SGA) worked with the MSCHE by using the collected data to determine what students care about and to criticize the structure of Stevens as a whole. In regard to additional concerns and topics, diversity and inclusiveness on campus is highlighted as a concern, as well as the need to strengthen financial assistance by including additional services essential to students. The SGA agrees with many of the comments made and many have been mentioned in the previous year. The Middle States Accreditation Process as a whole strives to find the best Stevens experience for the students.
