Construction for Davis Hall completed on time, and students will no longer have to be temporarily relocated to the Sheraton hotel in Weehawken, NJ, according to an email sent out to residents this morning.
Emails sent out resident assistants and future residents of Davis Hall earlier this month said that the Davis Hall residence hall would not be complete at the start of the school year due to incomplete construction. As a result, residents were told that they would instead be relocated to the Sheraton hotel in Weehawken, NJ.
Students would have stayed at the Sheraton hotel in Weehawken until at least August 26th, with some students required to stay at the hotel until as late as September 8th.
The construction in Davis Hall — which resulted in new bathrooms, communal spaces, and “stain and waterproof” carpeting for residents, according to a resident assistant familiar with the plans — began at the beginning of the summer.
The Office of Residence Life prepared shuttle service from the Sheraton hotel to Stevens campus and temporary storage service for any items that students did not want to bring with them during their stay in the hotel.
Sam Coumans, one of the resident assistants in Davis Hall who was prepared to be relocated to the Sheraton hotel in Weehawken for several weeks, seemed relieved to be living on campus at the start of the year.
“The prospect of temporarily living in the Sheraton was both exciting and slightly daunting, as it would be a completely new experience for both RAs and residents. All that said, it feels good to be starting off the year in our home of Davis,” Coumans said.
Freshmen began moving into Davis Hall this morning.
