Congratulations to the Class of 2018! Here you are, watching this college chapter finish and waiting for a new one to begin. Most of you know what you will be doing past graduation, whether it is a full-time job, graduate school, a startup company, or anything else. Yet, you don’t really know what this next phase of your life will be like. And that, in part, is what makes it both exciting and scary. Remember the anxiety and excitement you felt before starting college, and look at how great it turned out. These have probably been some of the best years of your life, and it seems to have gone by way too quickly.
I look at my graduating friends with nostalgia, but I am so excited for them and to see what they will accomplish. As terrifying as this new phase can be, it can also be an exciting new challenge. After all, you accomplished everything you wanted to since you got to college (or at least most of it). Now is the time to set new goals and to see what you are passionate about, outside of your clubs.
But I’m sure you all already know all of this. So I guess the one thing that I want to remind you is to not forget your past. Yes, you and your friends will move away, but don’t lose touch even if it’s texting once a month. These people were some of the most important people in your lives for the past four (or five) years β challenge yourself to not lose them. If you are moving away to another city, don’t forget where you came from. The past is a part of what makes you, you. Don’t try to lose this chapter just because a new one is starting.
