Steaking out Arthur’s Tavern

One of my best friends here at Stevens is my man Faris. I met him my freshman year in MA 123 and thought he was the most annoying person ever. Who does this incredibly loud guy think he is, answering questions on the first day of class? Is this guy really about to clown everybody on his FIRST CLASS and not blink? Needless to say, I fell in love with him the moment I realized, ‘you know what, I’m also a loud guy who answers questions in class.’ It was like looking in a mirror. So, in conclusion, I’d like to dedicate this article to one of my favorite people here at Stevens, and his recommendation, Arthur’s Tavern.

Arthur’s Tavern is a classic steakhouse specializing in, well, steaks and burgers. Their menu is what you would expect from a restaurant in the American tradition: a nice mix of salads, steaks, burgers, and seafood to satisfy any business meeting or formal occasion. In addition, their wide selection of drinks would take an experienced pub person to try fully, but that doesn’t mean the inexperienced can’t try.

After getting a little lost before finding the place with my ever iconic friend and ChemBio colleague, we quickly took a seat and started taking in the atmosphere. The restaurant was open and homey with its strong wood architecture and checkered tablecloths, and the occasional bronze accent glinted dimly in the faint light as if calling out for a former glory. Overall, the entire air felt rarefied, almost dreamlike, and I could easily see the place packed to the gills with all types of people enjoying themselves on a Friday or Saturday night. To be honest, it was one of the few places that felt charming without being gimmicky.

Both of us ordered burgers, and they were without a doubt some of the best burgers I’ve ever had. The cheese, tomatoes, and onions were classic additions on a staple dish, but the highlight was without a doubt the meat. The quality of the meat patty, if we’re being real, makes or breaks most burgers. It provides the underlying flavor that powers the rest of the burger and dictates if you’re going to feel good about the meal afterward or not. This time around, the patties were best described as real meat, no jokes, if’s, and’s, or but’s. On top of the great meat, the burger buns were also incredibly fluffy pillows that didn’t just flatten into sadness once you picked the burger up. I highly recommend.

Arthur’s Tavern is a classic, no-nonsense steak/burger joint that doesn’t beat around the bush. High-quality food in an iconic locale with a wide drink menu makes Arthur’s a great place for a multitude of occasions, be it nice dates, business meetings, or formal events. Just be ready to spend a little more than usual; it’s entirely worth it.
