The Filipino Association of Stevens Tech (FAST) hosted a Flower Festival to emulate the traditional Flipino Panagbenga Festival celebrating the blooming of flowers. This event, hosted on April 5 in Walker Gym, paid tribute to the revival of the Philippine population after the Luzon earthquake of 1990.
At the event, students made flower crowns and paper origami flowers, took photos in the photo booth, and got henna tattoos.
The food included fried chicken, spring rolls, varieties of rice, and various other options.
The event was co-hosted by the Korean Student Association (KSA), West Indian Student Organization (WISO), Chinese Student Association (CSA), Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Nu Alpha Phi, and Lambda Upsilon Lambda. “Because flower festivals are widely celebrated all over the world, we wanted to collaborate with other ethnic RSOs and put together a more conglomerate festival, inclusive of a diverse spread of traditions,” explained Nina Ioanis, Culture Chair for FAST. The festival featured student performances by CSA, the Greek organizations, and members of FAST.
