On Wednesday, Feb. 28, the West Indian Student Organization (WISO) hosted its first event, Potluck. WISO is currently in the process of becoming a Registered Student Organization (RSO) and hopes to achieve official status later this month. The organization aspires to represent the many cultures that exist in the West Indies and introduce them to other students. Khamini Persaud, President of the club, says that there isn’t enough representation of these cultures in existing ethnic clubs on campus. “We are a resilient people who have created a beautiful common culture from so many different backgrounds,” says Persaud.
The event featured games and cultural food, which was homemade, setting it apart from some of the other ethnic clubs. According to Persaud, “You will never leave a West Indian household hungry.” WISO is hoping to host more events to showcase the many cultural aspects that they have to offer.
