On Tuesday, the Office of Residence Life opened the Housing Application process for the 2018-2019 academic year. Students who intend to live on campus or in Stevens Leased Housing must submit their applications by Friday, Feb. 28. They will then be eligible for Room Selection, which begins Mar. 2 and ends Mar. 22. The Housing Application can be found on the myStevens Housing & Dining page.
The Office of Residence Life also announced some changes to the Room Selection policy. As of next semester, Stevens Leased Housing will have the option of gender-inclusive housing, which means that students may choose apartment-mates regardless of their sex or gender identities. Students already living in Leased Housing will, on Mar. 1, have the option to pull in roommates of any gender while retaining their current unit. Another change is the creation of Roommate Groups. Unless selecting a room alone, students will be required to form Roommate Groups of two to six people via “Room Selection” under myStevens Housing & Dining, designating one group leader to select a unit on the behalf of the entire group.
Similarly to years past, upperclassmen will select rooms first, followed by sophomores, and then freshmen. In order to accommodate as many freshmen on campus as possible, one source says, current Sophomores and Juniors “will only see SLH options during their own signup times, but could be pulled into on-campus housing by freshmen during their signups later in March.” The on-campus options for current Freshmen will include Jonas Hall, Palmer Hall, and River Terrace. But, according to Residence Life, only one half of the current Freshman class will receive on-campus housing next semester.
For additional information on the Housing Application and Room Selection process, students may contact the Office of Residence Life at reslife@stevens.edu or refer to Catherine McGuire’s school-wide email announcement from Feb. 6. The Office of Residence Life is also hosting information sessions in the Fielding room (third floor of the Howe Center), on the following dates: Wednesday, Feb. 7 from 2 to 3 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 13 from 9 to 10 p.m., Friday, Feb. 23 from 3 to 4 p.m., and Wednesday, Feb. 28 from 1 to 2 p.m.
