On Friday, Oct. 20, Theta Phi Alpha partnered with WCPR and the Audio Engineering Club to host Battle of the Bands for the first time in two years. Seven local bands – Lavender Soup, Exit 114, Frontrunner, Ouikkleaks, Abacus, In The Works, George’s Good Ear, and Long Neck – competed. The event raised $523, which will be donated to No More Dysphoria, a local charity that assists the funding of gender transition surgeries for transgender people.
Each band featured members of the Stevens community; a few of the bands featured members of the Greek community. Frontrunner and Ouikkileaks had brothers from Chi Phi, Exit 114 had brothers from Alpha Sigma Phi, Abacus had brothers from Sigma Phi Epsilon, and George’s Good Ear was comprised of brothers from Lodge. According to Katie Van Orden, Philanthropy Chair of Theta Phi Alpha, Battle of the Bands accomplished her goal of recognizing bands in the Stevens community. The winner of the event was determined by an audience vote with Abacus winning the event and a Charritos gift card.
