I may not speak for all of us, but I imagine we don’t all love every second of being in school/work and would rather be somewhere else. It doesn’t even have to be a vacation – just something other than the many hours behind the desk of a computer, waist deep in a book, or hundreds of lines into code. Everyone has things they would rather do and learn. Personally, I have a lot of things I would rather be doing or learning right now. Now, that doesn’t mean I do not enjoy what I’m doing now. I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to study here and enjoy my field, but there are those days where being on a beach would make me happier than any of those chairs in the library. So I ask you, what would you rather be doing at this very moment if you could snap your fingers and do it? I am currently asking myself the same question, and it is proving to be a lot more difficult to answer than I thought. There are so many things I want to do, all the time. I really want to go snowboarding in Geneva, see the fjords in Iceland, trek around New Zealand, practice French IN France, and so much more. I try to remedy those wants by trying to look forward to doing more mundane things. For example, instead of this report I have to do later, I would much rather be decorating my apartment. Come to think of it, that’s what shapes my procrastination. I’m even procrastinating this column by looking on Pinterest for apartment ideas. Is anyone else the same way? If you are reading this, thank you for procrastinating your work for this. Now if you will excuse me, I have a snowboarding video to watch and an apartment to pretend-decorate.
