Dan Delaney, a Stevens alumnus, is running for the U.S. House of Representatives under the Libertarian Party. His position supports breaking down to what he refers to as the “flawed two-party system.” He also stands for a free market, limiting government spending, and decreasing foreign military presence.
While at Stevens, Delaney was a brother at Lodge (officially known as Chi Psi), as well as a member of the Association for Information Systems, Stevens Christian Fellowship, and multiple intramural sports teams. Delaney majored in Computer Science and currently works as a Web Developer.
Following the 2012 election, Delaney became interested in politics. After being inspired by former Texas Congressman Dr. Ron Paul, a candidate in the election, he began researching the cause of liberty. This “ideological revolution,” as he called it, led to him officially joining the Libertarian Party earlier this year. He then became a candidate in the election and even went to the Libertarian National Convention in Orlando, Florida last May. At the convention, he witnessed the workings of liberty and the “first-hand the power that individuals have to influence the party platform if they try hard enough.”
For current Stevens students, Delaney highly recommends the Co-op program. For anyone interested in politics, he says to “just dive in. Make an effort, reach out and contact people, and see what you can do. You’ll be pleasantly surprised.”
