Power was shut off in Davis and Hayden Halls as part of a scheduled outage on the morning of Saturday, October 31. Unbeknownst to organizations in Jacobus Hall, the Student Center also lost power, pulling WCPR off the air and damaging equipment.
The outage lasted from roughly 7:40 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Some of WCPR’s older hardware—fans in a server, a hard drive, and two computer monitors in Studio A—broke as a result.
“Dean Nilsen offered to speak with Physical Plant and reimburse us for the equipment lost. Student Life has been helpful every step of the way,” said Andy Waldron, WCPR General Manager. “It’s funny: we had an mishap and went off air October 31 a year ago, during Rocky [Horror Picture Show], but it’s unrelated to what happened this weekend.”
