Meet Professor Muisener

The Alpha Epsilon Delta pre-medical honor society invited chemistry, chemical biology, and biology students to meet their department heads this past Wednesday. Students had the opportunity to meet the new head of the Chemistry and Chemical Biology department, Professor Muisener. Dr. Leopold, the former Director of Chemistry, Chemical Biology, and Biomedical Engineering was also in attendance, as he has been reassigned as Director of Biology. Professor Muisener joined Stevens this past August, bringing with her twelve years of experience from the University of South Florida.

Muisener is not new to running departments; she previously ran the Chemistry department at the University of South Florida. While there, she worked with an array of different students, from pharmacy majors to pre-medical students, and has thus helped numerous students in different fields. Muisener also helped expand the bio-medical program at the university; during her time there, the student population went from zero to 2,800 students.

Professor Muisener is growing accustomed to life at Stevens. Currently she is only teaching general chemistry, but will be teaching more classes in the following semester. Even though Muisener is not conducting any research at this time, she says she would be interested in doing it in the future. For the time being, Muisener is balancing teaching and her new responsibilities. Professor Muisener says she is excited to be at Stevens, especially when she talks to other professors. She finds it a good thing that a number of the other professors have been at Stevens for a long time. Despite being new to Stevens, Muisener is making herself available to her students so that she can help them in any way she can. Overall, Professor Muisener is enjoying her time at Stevens and looks forward to getting to know her colleagues and students.
