On Wednesday, October 8 Stevens Club Lacrosse played against their longtime rivals, New Paltz. The game began at 8:30 p.m. on the DeBaun Athletic Complex. This was game number one of their fall season. The score was 12-4 in favor of the Ducks.
The Stevens Club Lacrosse team consists of about 25 members. President of Stevens Club Lacrosse Andrew Hengemuhle is a Junior, who plays defense on the team. The rest of the executive board consists of Captain Ty Samms, vice President Ayden Canavos, Treasurer Dean Seus, and Public Relations Yasha Binyamin. They are under the direction of Coach Mark Bielicky, who has been coaching since the team’s inception 5 years ago.
The team was first organized in 2010. Historically, Stevens’ club lacrosse performs fairly well. They rank in the top 10 of the Division II National College Lacrosse League. Stevens has also claimed titles such as Metro Conference Champions.
This season, the team hopes to make it to the national championship for the first time and claim its first national title. They have 12 new freshmen that have brought a new level of talent to the team. The team practices 3-5 hours per week, and competes about once a week. Focus this year for the team, is building a strong foundation of trust, and teamwork in the fall that will allow them to excel in the spring. The next game for the team is October 15 at Columbia University at 8:30 p.m.
