The Residence Life Committee held a Mascot Competition between the different residence halls of Stevens on Wednesday. Each hall was judged by their poster, a skit that would introduce the mascot to the public, and of course the mascot itself. The mascots were judged by various faculty members, who used the different categories to declare winners. The first place winner nominated was one of leased housing halls, who had the Hoboken Horse. The Hoboken Horse hall had a very detailed figure, made from an amazing amount of brown duct tape, giving the horse a realistic appearance, as well as a cute poem about the Hoboken Horse: “Have no fear, the Hoboken Horse is here.” The second place was the S.S. Washington mascot which was a collaborative effort between 110 Washington and Shipyard housing. Since the two halls are on opposite sides of Hoboken, the group did a comedic take on the Titanic story for the skit. Third place went to River Terrace, who chose Pac-Man for their mascot and performed an amusing live version of a Pac-Man game. Last but not least, the honorable mention went to the Davis’ Dragon, who had an intricate dragon, also made from duct tape. There were a number of other memorable mascots one of which was the Jonas L-Evator, for which the group did a skit about how the slowness of the elevator is a good way to make bond and make friends. Overall, the competition was amusing, and appeared to be a fun way to bond with hall mates.
