New York Fashion Week

The big names in fashion took to the stage September 10 through 17 to bring us the hottest styles for fall/winter 2015 and spring/summer 2016. You can watch the replays at newyorkfashionweeklive.com to catch up on what you missed from Givenchy, Michael Kors, Rebecca Minkoff, Tommy Hilfiger, Tory Burch, Rodarte, and much more!

My favorite collection this year was Ralph Lauren, whose models looked super cozy for fall in muted browns, whites and grays with fur, and feather and fringe accents. They were bundled in simple, comfy brown sweaters and ponchos with long skirt and big furry winter hats. Every few outfits a top or skirt would feature gorgeous sparkly bead embellishments in a skirt or top to add some glamour to another wise uniform color palette. I especially adored the chunky turtlenecks!

Of course, I have to talk about my one true love Tommy Hilfiger. For fall, his runway was styled after a football field with preppy game day looks that pretty much screamed “America.” His models wore burgundy, navy, light brown and cream and featured fun plaids, bolds stripes, stadium jackets and pleated skirts. His clothes were heavy in texture too from leather to velvet to faux-fur and many pieces had sports numbers or little football helmet patches. Who says sportswear can’t be fashion?

Givenchy went all out for spring and featured some crazy, but fun runway looks that I can’t imagine would be much use for anything other than Halloween off the runway! The show started with very elegant black and white outfits that featured straight wide-leg pants and delicate lace trims. The guys also matched in monochrome black or white suits with long trench coats, skinny ties and leather pockets on their jackets. After that, things got a little funky as the girls came out it gorgeous red carpet dresses with their faces covered in tulle, lace, pearls and other jewels. My favorite wild look was a white, asymmetrical jacket that hit at the hip and was covered in god studs paired with a huge gold collar necklace.

Rebecca Minkoff paraded in front of a live band and kept the black and white theme alive with some awesome knee-high gladiator, heeled sandals. One of her models wore a tight black jumpsuit over a white blouse while others wore cropped tops with pants or shorts that both featured cut out details. She also had some fun ruffly tops and dresses with high necks and off the shoulder cuts, as well as a recurring lilac suede that was used for a few dresses and skirts. Minkoff kept the fringe for spring as well.

Marc Jacobs’ spring looks were full of bold patterns in red, white and blue for a Western, American flare. Bedazzled jean jackets, flag printed tops and sweaters and more stadium jackets made this collection feel right at home on the American runways. Plaid on plaid on plaid with preppy sweaters and a fringed flag jacket, I almost went blind from national pride. On the streets these pieces would be cute as statement pieces with subtler outfits.
