A weeknight for me typically consists of these four things: food, homework, minimal sleep, and more food. After my classes end around 1 p.m., I head over to Pierce and eat either with my friends or by myself so I can get some work done while I’m eating. This is sometimes difficult when Pierce becomes the place where the whole student body seemingly comes to eat. It sometimes baffles me how many people come to Pierce around 1 o’clock for lunch, especially on a Wednesday when classes end around that time for almost everyone.
By the time I get to the dining hall, almost all of the tables are occupied and there are people swarming the different food stations taking any food that catches their eye. Sometimes it gets so crowded that the conveyor belt for the dishwasher is stopped and completely filled with dishes stacked at least six or seven plates high. This is definitely not the time for me to be doing homework, but for some reason I feel like I should be starting at least something.
By the time 2 p.m. rolls around, it is a lot less crowded in the dining hall and I can actually hear myself think. I then begin some form of homework, whether it be chemistry online work or engineering graphics. Today, however, I am writing this column. If I can’t find any inspiration in the dining hall, sometimes I go outside and sit at one of the tables near Humphreys. It is so relaxing for me to sit out there in the peace and quiet to do my homework or write this column. If I can’t find inspiration anywhere else, I can usually find inspiration when I’m outside. It is mostly quiet where I sit, apart from the countless helicopters and airplanes that fly by every 10 minutes. Even though it is the middle of September, it is still surprisingly hot outside. It can get awfully hot in the sun, so I am always grateful when a cool breeze rolls by.
By 5 or 5:30 p.m., if I have had enough of staring at endless amounts of calculus problems on WileyPlus, or balancing chemical equations, I usually go to dinner at (you guessed it) Pierce. I’ll sit with my friends and we all usually talk and hang out for a while until one of us decides that we have to continue doing homework. Once dinner is over, I usually head to the library or go to my room to finish my homework for the day. Once I am finished with work for the day, I’ll stay awake until at least 12:30 or 1 a.m., waiting in anticipation of the next day and dreading hearing the sound of my 6 a.m. alarm to wake me up for the day ahead.
