The Upright Citizens Brigade took the stage last Friday in Jacobus Lounge to perform an improv comedy show. Four young comedians from the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York used audience-provided topics to set up several improvised sketches, some of which went off the rails.
The comics opened up the show by asking the audience general questions about their academic experience, campus life, stereotypes about different majors, and more in that vein. They invited up a member of the audience named Jordan for a brief interview about his experience at Stevens. “All engineers are better than [Business & Technology] students,” said Jordan.
After the interview, during which Jordan got some laughs, the comedians began some improvised skits based on what Jordan said during the interview. The skits covered a myriad of topics, including hospital bombs, incest pornography, being tested on “stuff,” marriage as a level of commitment below dating, and speaking in Canadian (you had to be there).
The Upright Citizens Brigade is an improvisational comedy and sketch comedy group that formed in 1990 in Chicago. Some of its best known members include Matt Besser, Amy Poehler, Ian Roberts, Matt Walsh, and, more recently, Ellie Kemper and Kate McKinnon. Its members have been involved in numerous popular television shows, including “The Office” and “Saturday Night Live.”
