About one year ago, I committed to Stevens Institute of Technology. I was so excited to be part of “the class that brought the sunshine with them.” A few short months later, I moved into my new home – just a newly hatched duckling.
I didn’t know Howe to find my way around campus or Hoboken. I didn’t know who Pearl was, or any staff or faculty members. I thought Attila was lame, too. But now at the end of my freshman year, I couldn’t be more proud to be a Stevens duck.
It has been such a memorable first year – my first job, first party, my first college friends, my first favorite professor. I have enjoyed these experiences and allowed them to shape me as a person. When I had my first struggles like finding friends, focusing on academics, getting the freshman plague, and having a major crisis, I learned to take responsibility of my life and improve myself.
I am so thankful for all of the opportunities Stevens has given me. The Stute was the beginning of my involvement on campus. I made the office in Jacobus my nest, and I was taken under the wings of my “Stute family.” They encouraged and inspired me everyday. I am just so grateful to have been part of the organization. I’m going to miss writing this column every week! If I had the opportunity to redo it all, I would not change a thing.
Similarly, being involved an active student on campus has introduced me to the many different types of people in the world. I’ve just learned so much about people and life, and this has allowed me to grow as a person.
So, hello, my fellow ducks! We have all grown up so well over the course of only two semesters. We survived freshman year and we have all of the memories to prove it!
With the help of my friends at Stevens, I feel like I have grown to love this place and I know that I will always be proud of my alma mater. I can’t wait to see what the next few years hold.
Per aspera, ad astra.
