16 Handles collaborated with the Delta Phi Epsilon sorority from Stevens on Tuesday to help the chapter fundraise for the upcoming semester. 20% of all profits made between 6 and 9 p.m. that night were given directly to the sorority.
Students from all different corners of campus came out to show support for the Delta Phi Epsilon sisters as late as 8 p.m. Kelly Kapper, Vice President of Operations of the chapter, said, “We’re fundraising for our chapter. Our formal is coming up, so hopefully the proceeds will help offset the costs for the sisters.”
This wasn’t the first time that DPhiE has worked with 16 Handles. “We’ve actually worked with them several times before. Last winter, 16 Handles let us host a $5 all you can eat fro-yo party,” Kapper said. This event wasn’t for fundraising purposes, but solely to establish relations between the business and the sorority.
According to Kapper, Rebecca O’Connor and Lauren Hyland were the two young women responsible for putting the event together are the two fundraising chairs.
As much as 16 Handles appreciates the business from this event, DPhiE shares the sentiment. If one takes a look at the wall next to the cash register at the frozen-yogurt bar, there are three certificates issued by the Delta Phi Epsilon sorority recognizing 16 Handles for their success at the 2013 and 2014 Castle Point Cravings, an event hosted by the sorority that gives students from Stevens the opportunity to taste samples from the best Hoboken restaurants.
The event had a large turnout, and the sorority hopes that this money will help bring down the cost of formal, which is this coming Saturday.
Looking forward, DPhiE is preparing for the Castle Point King Philanthropy Event. “This is our big spring philanthropy event,” Kapper said. “It involves all the frats, and it’s a 10 year tradition.”
This year, the Castle Point King event will coincide with UNITY, which will hopefully bring more students to both events.
