The Stevens community enjoyed the coming warm weather with gelato, Italy’s version of ice cream on Thursday, March 12. The Stevens Italian Club served a countless amount of flavors in Jacobus Lounge. Students gathered to enjoy their choice of gelato with brioche rolls. The line for the event extended out of the lounge as enthusiastic students waited their turn to eat gelato.
“The ice cream was really good. It was definitely worth the wait,” said senior Melissa Matos.
The Italian Club was pleasantly surprised by the turnout: “We had over one hundred people come out tonight,” said president Tommaso DiGesaro, “It’s really nice to see students embrace authentic Italian culture.”
Within 45 minutes all the ice cream was finished, yet no student who came for gelato was turned away. “This was my first time having Gelato, and I loved it,” said chemical biology major Melissa Conklin. “It was a great experience spending time with friends and experiencing Italian culture. The line may have been long but it went by pretty quickly, so I was glad.”
The Italian Club worked together to make sure everyone received gelato. Some were swiping members in, while others were serving ice cream. Students had questions about the names of different flavors and what options there were. Members were more than happy to answer all questions and encourage participants to have an enjoyable experience.
Overall the event was a quick wisp of spring and culture. With the weather getting warmer, it is important for students to go out and create a sense of community. The Italian Club did just that with their Gelato Night event.
