Stevens students were welcomed to join the Residence Hall Association (RHA) for bagels, coffee, and donuts to discuss all aspects of student life this past Saturday. As the deadline for housing slowly but surely approaches, the RHA members were prepared to answer questions regarding the housing application process.
Members of the RHA sat around the long tables in Hayden Lounge, waiting for students to come for both the free breakfast and advice. Cara Realmuto, Vice President of the Residence Hall Association, said that the Sunday breakfasts are meant to serve as a way for students to discuss any problems they have had on campus or to ask questions.
When asked what advice she would give to freshmen applying for housing, Realmuto said “Explore all your options. I didn’t want to live off-campus as a sophomore.” She said that because sophomore students are still young, “it may be too much of a commute to have off-campus living.” Realmuto lives in Jonas, and personally feels that “[on-campus housing] is the best option.”
The housing application is now a bit different than it was in the past. “Students should be aware of the March 1 deadline. The application is now [accessible] through myStevens, which is a bit different from last year,” Realmuto said. The application gives students the option to select their three top housing locations, the type of room, and desired roommates, who can be selected using last name, housing ID numbers, or campus ID numbers.
If students have any questions, they should contact the Office of Residence Life, either via email (reslife@stevens.edu) or by visiting the office, located on the 7th floor of the Howe building. Realmuto said “A majority of the student body is going through the housing application process now. You can really ask anyone, and make sure to have your application submitted by March 1!”
