Love Letter Writing, a Campus Cursive event, held another session in Hayden Lounge on February 24 at 9 p.m.. Campus Cursive is a chapter of the national association The World Needs More Love Letters. Usually events happen once every month and consist of writing cheerful anonymous letters. How the process works is that someone, anywhere in the world, submits a request for a loved one who is going through a rough patch. The foundation gets these requests and chooses which ones to respond to. Letters usually consist of inspiration and motivational words.
This event was even more special this week because letters were being sent locally. Actually, it was a Stevens student. Many people who attended were close with her and knew her, which made this event deeper than the other ones. Also, instead of sending through snail mail, Campus Cursive had the ability to send a stack of love letters to her personally.
The club began in 2013 when Jorge Rivera, 5/5 Business and Technology major, contacted The World Needs More Love Letters and was accepted to make a new chapter at Stevens. Before Stevens became a chapter, the organization Alpha Phi Omega held events for it. What inspired Jorge Rivera to pursue forming a chapter was what it did for people. “Love Letter Writing allows people to grow because they make others happy and enjoy it,” Associate Leader Jorge Rivera explained.
The organization does not just write letters to people who request them; every semester near finals week, the organization writes little pick-up notes and scatters them around campus. Their purpose is to remind students to relax and not overwork themselves on finals week.
Campus Cursive does not have a list of members; events are posted on DuckSync. If you are interested in participating, sign up for notifications or search around campus each time there is a Love Letter Writing event!
