The bowling alley in Howe hosted Red Pin Bowling this past Wednesday at 9 p.m.. This event was presented by the Stevens Bowling Club, specifically its members Bailey Bancroft and Sean Dirscherl, and it also could be used as an APO fellowship event by brothers and new members of that fraternity. Students could win gift cards to Hoboken restaurants and chains, such as Vito’s, Stacks, Dunkin Donuts, Panera, Chipotle, and Starbucks. Their objective? Get a strike when the pins had the titular red pin in front.
This was harder than one might imagine. Even though most of the participants were good bowlers, a strike is always hard to get. There was also the factor that the machine that put the pins in place sometimes didn’t put the red pin in front. Student would have to wait a few turns before they even had the opportunity to win a prize. However, once they had a chance, most who did won the prize. It helped that the event seemed to be solely populated with strong bowlers, or at least ones not prone to gutter balls.
Nevertheless, prizes were won as the night went on, and many students went home happy. The event also offered free pizza and snacks, such as chips, cookies, and soda. However, most of the people who attended the event had more of a drive to socialize and have fun than a drive to win one of the gift cards. Many spent time socializing between lanes as they waited for their turns to come up and had to be called back when it was time. It was great to see an event that not only offered fun prizes, but also just a chance to hang out with your friends and bowl a few frames.
