Last Friday, I walked out of a meeting wondering what I would be doing the rest of the night. Upon reaching the bottom of the elevator, I ran into a friend who was on her way to rollerskating. I was confused as to where there would be roller skating and followed her back up the elevator and found myself at a rollerskating event hosted by the Entertainment Committee in Bissinger on the fourth floor of Howe.
Upon walking in the room, the lights had been turned off and substituted with flashy disco lights, and a WCPR DJ was providing music for the evening. After signing a waiver, you could walk over to the side table and borrow roller skates for the night. The floor was covered in a padding that allowed a smooth ride while not damaging the floors.
Off to the side of the room was a table of refreshments, as well as a table of assorted candy bars, and another with chips.
During the night, people could jump in and join the group of people revolving around the center of the room. As more people showed up, the games of the night began. The first game was Four Corners, in which the skaters picked a corner of the rink where they stayed until the person in the center called a number. If you were in the number corner that was called, you were out of the game. The prize was a gift card to a local Hoboken restaurant which went to Alexandra Repper. Among the other games was a dancing competition and musical chairs.
The night was a lot of fun with conga lines of skaters forming, and everyone from first time skaters to avid skaters were able to have fun. After a huge holiday display on Davis lawn, and now an impromptu roller rink in Howe, it is exciting to see a project that EC is taking on and bringing to the Stevens community.
