After nearly fourteen days of spirited events, R.A.G.E. Night was to be the grand finale of the Red and Gray Experience. As students amassed in Canavan, excitement grew.
Throughout the two weeks, there was speculation on what surprises RAGE Night had in store. Signups on the RAGE website had vague descriptions for “Human Carry”, “Ski Ball Catapult”, “Stevens Sporcle,” and “Obstacle Course.”
One thing was certain; this was not another rave. After being handed T-shirts of their respective class, students poured into the gymnasium and diverged into four seating clusters.
The first event was a dodge-ball tournament which pitted the juniors against the freshmen and the seniors against the sophomores, who were dressed in Sodexo garb. After the seniors finished up their win, all eyes were drawn to the projector screen.
A video directed by the Art Club played starring Dr. Kevin Ryan, detailing the events of two hours prior to RAGE Night. Dr. Ryan was shown grading papers in his car and smoking a large cigar. As he reviewed the items on his checklist, he realized that the dry cleaners had neglected to return his suit.
Distraught and without a functioning car, Dr. Ryan ran all the way to the dry cleaners, picked up his suit, ran back to campus, changed in a Babbio Center elevator, and caught a ride in a golf cart to make it to RAGE Night on time.
Seconds after the video ended, Dr. Kevin Ryan made his grand entrance in a tuxedo. The crowd cheered and the events of the night resumed. Starting with the item hunt event, each team received a coordinator, with Dr. Ryan joining the Sophomores. Items requested included a flip phone, a metro card, seven left shoes, and a penny from before 1980. In the frantic search for the items, all teams threw their objects at their respective coordinator, hoping to score more points for their team.
For the Human Carry, each team had to select one member for other members in groups of two to carry back and forth across the gymnasium. For the Ski Ball Catapult, teams selected a person to launch ducks into bins held by three other teammates. For Stevens Sporkle, the teams had to answer as many trivia questions about Stevens as they could given the time constraints.
There was also a noise-making competition to see which class could level the most sound on a decibel meter, a dance performance put on by Stevens Next Best Dance Crew, and a short skit put on by Off Center, featuring “Dr. Favardin” as he addressed new changes to Stevens in order to bolster school spirit.
For the Obstacle Course, each team needed eight members. One team member would have to walk across a balance beam in order to transfer a cup pyramid from one table to another. Dropping any of the cups along the way meant bringing the whole stack back to the starting table.
Then a second team member would join up to untangle a series of knots, before a third team member joined in to solve a puzzle. Then a fourth team member would help in attempting to figure out how many rubber ducks were in a bin placed a few meters away. Then a fifth and sixth team member would join in to help solve a word problem.
Finally, the rest of the team would all group together in order to make a 4-3-2-1 pyramid.
Throughout the event, RAGE Night was filled with excitement and energy from the student body. In the end, the seniors won with the most points.
