With the pending end of the semester, students are cramped inside trying to finish final assignments while preparing for finals. It is only fitting that at this time, Stevens needs to be lit up with some holiday cheer and spirit to help get through the next few weeks. At this point, some students decided to come together to host an event that would brighten the mood here at Stevens.
Greg Klesaris, one of the major organizers of the event, said “The idea came from the movie Deck The Halls where he wanted to see his house from space so he literally puts all the lights on his house and yard. I figured we needed some spirit at Stevens and about 2.5 weeks ago I started looking into details.” With this goal set in mind, the event started to unfold with lights being set up the Sunday before the event at the end of Thanksgiving break. Among this set were 73 sets of lights, an inflatable duck and snowman, ornaments for the tree lighting, and lights illuminating the Walker patio. “We have so many lights that we blew the circuit for all the street lights on campus 3 times”, Greg says, “So they gave me my own 50 amp power cube.”
Before the festivities began at Walker, the Stevens Game Development Club (SGDC) hosted a pizza party in Hayden lounge where they showcased some games developed by students throughout the semester. The feature here was the new Jacobus Arcade Machine. The Machine is a project started by the Campus Life Committee in order to replace the broken machine in Jacobus. The committee was also responsible for the celebration that followed.
Inside Walker, a ton of treats were served including cake pops, candy canes, macaroons, cupcakes, and more. There was a hot beverage bar that served hot chocolate and hot apple cider with whipped cream and chocolate to add.
Outside on the patio, WCPR got the party in motion with festive music for the night. There were several tables outside that had Holiday themed rubber ducks, more candy canes, dreidels, and stations to decorate your own ornament.
After the crowed was able to gather up treats and collectibles, everyone was invited down to the festively decorated Davis lawn where Quackapella lead everyone in caroling. When they had finished, there was a countdown and the tree lighting began filling the final end of the lawn with color and light.
Meanwhile in Jacobus lounge, Hillel had their annual Hanukkah Party. The celebration included Jewish music, games, and lot of food.
No matter what you are celebrating this Holiday season, the clubs at Stevens have helped push our spirits in a good direction that will hopefully help us make our way through the rough few weeks to come before our holiday break.
