If your name is Steven, I apologize for the confusion: I don’t think I’ve met you (or anyone named Steven yet), but I am simply in love with our beautiful university! There are said to be three essentials for happiness: good location, people, and food. Although it has been but a week since I moved in, I am positive that Stevens Institute of Technology is my perfect match.
My favorite thing about Stevens thus far is the campus. Every day I wake up to the sparkling Hudson River. To anyone not taking advantage of the picturesque view, stop and take a moment to appreciate the cerulean blue water glistening by the city. It is one of the most breathtaking sights I’ve ever seen. Take some time to explore the surrounding area of the city of Hoboken, take notice of how fortunate we are to be walking distance from famous landmarks. Stevens’ campus is notably quaint for its position in between the hustle of the cities, providing the best of both worlds – beauty and convenience.
The most important part of orientation and becoming acclimated to Stevens is meeting new people. It is making friends with your floormates, sitting down with random people at Pierce, and asking for phone numbers of those in your recitation groups that will make a difference in how much you love it here. The power of friendliness can not be overstated. Participating in the Goose Chase and the World Cup Games created unity within orientation groups, and widespread camaraderie around campus this week has made me feel so welcomed. I feel like I belong here being accepted by my fellow freshmen and upperclassmen.
Lastly, a mix of event snacks, Hoboken restaurants, and Sodexo hasn’t failed me yet. Between taking granola bars and sodas from the comedy show (and plenty more free food) and wrapping up a second slice from Benny’s, I have been balancing my trips to Pierce with eating other foods. Aside from the cake from Pierce, which reminded me of something out of an EasyBake Oven, campus cuisine has been pretty decent. I’m happy to be neither a starving college kid nor loading up on cheap snacks this semester.
On the whole, I am already very comfortable with life Stevens. I feel unbelievably lucky to be here – a place which allows me to hatch out of my shell and start living life to the fullest as a Stevens Duck.
