On Tuesday, March 15, 2014, at 9:00 p.m., the Stevens Knitting Club hosted a Tea and Knitting Night in the Lore-El center. Students were invited to join the members of the Knitting Club as they socialized with snacks and tea, and if curious, they would be taught the basics of knitting.
The Knitting Club is a group of Stevens students brought together by their interest in the knitting or crocheting arts. They meet every Tuesday at 9:00 p.m., normally in Babbio 204. They come together, relax, and share tips on how to improve their skills with the needle.
Matthew Hall, the club’s treasurer, spent much of his time teaching visitors to the club the basics behind knitting. Having only learned the techniques himself a year and a half ago when he first joined the club, Hall knew the kinds of questions people new to the art of knitting would be asking. Hall says joining the knitting club is a great way to meet new people and take a break from classes.
Geraldine Mabagos, the club’s secretary, has been crocheting for about 10 years. Her biggest projects have been a large sweater and a dress that she is currently working on. She recommends to all people new to knitting to “keep practicing, all the time”.
Matthew Alessandri, a first time visitor to the club, said that it was quite relaxing. He’s planning on returning to hone his skills, with the goal of making something he feels would be acceptable to wear in public.
If you’re interested in having a relaxing time spent socializing with some interesting people, consider coming down to Babbio 204 next Tuesday night. And while you’re there, maybe pick up some needles and start working on a scarf or something. Everybody loves scarves.
