At the clock turned to 6:00 p.m., a multitude of students gathered at the door and formed a line to check in to the Stevens Italian Club’s (SIC) event with the new Ducksync system. Regularly, students are excited on Friday night; the prospect of winding down from the weekly academic schedule is something all students look forward to. But this Friday night on February 7 was different. This was because all students at Stevens were invited to stop by at the SIC Cultural Food Night to eat some tasty, free food that wasn’t Pierce.
It was apparent that the students were hungry and wanted to get some Italian food. It was evening, and the timing of the event couldn’t have been any better.
The room SIC hosted the Cultural Food Night, BC-104, filled up very quickly as students struggled finding available seats. The atmosphere of the event was comfortable and relaxing. Loud techno music blared from the speakers as students socialized and happily ate their food.
With regards to the food, student Andrew Deutchman commented, “It’s good. It beats eating at Pierce.”
Other students were also very pleased with the food served at this event, including student Nicole Santos who stated, “I don’t know what I’m eating, but it’s delicious.”
The food offered at the SIC’s Cultural Food Night was mixed and varied, some foods were well known to students, and some weren’t. Still, this didn’t stop people from trying the new dishes out and getting a taste of everything. One person who did know about all of the foods served was Stevens Italian Club President Tommaso Di Gesaro.
He stated that “We had penne vodka; we had orecchetti with broccoli rabe, sundried tomatoes, and pasta; we had chicken marsala; eggplant rolatini; sausage and peppers; and caesar salad-all you can eat.” There was also bread and chicken parmesan served at the event, both of which were popular among students and ran out pretty quickly.
As students were feasting on their meals and getting seconds, the President of the Stevens Italian Club turned on the mic and gave a short commentary thanking the students for coming in and presented the e-board members of SIC that made this event possible. Students applauded, and went back to eating. After eating, a lot of students still lingered and talked with their friends. The Stevens Italian Club’s Cultural Food Night was a success that gave students an opportunity to relax and eat some delicious Italian food with their friends. President Tommaso Di Gesaro stated that “Next year, we are gonna try doubling the amount of food because every semester, the attendees are exponentially increasing.” Students are eagerly awaiting the next time SIC hosts their infamous Cultural Food Night.
