In this bitter cold, the Stevens community is certainly glad for any little bit of help in weathering the weather. Sometimes, it might be difficult to appease the majority for various reasons.
Thankfully, Stevens has initiated a new program which would allow for improved and more varied transportation options.
Until this semester, the Stevens residential shuttle had functioned as the only source of travel for students who lacked the funds to call a taxi, lived much too far away from campus to walk back home, or were simply lazy. Convenient though sometimes unreliable, the shuttle satisfied a simple need of the fast-paced lifestyle here at Stevens.
While the stops were mainly for the benefit of those living in off-campus housing, those who simply wanted to get off near the PATH could do so as well. However, the lack of a vast amount of shuttles to accommodate various schedules along with the varying Hoboken traffic attributed to the frustrations of many. Various students have voiced their criticisms of the shuttle saying “The residence shuttle is always full” or even that “Some Hoboken kids have been causing trouble.”
As a result of this and most likely the university’s recent moves to take more “green” actions to help the environment, two new shuttles have been introduced.
The Blue Line runs a shuttle to the Hoboken Terminal and the PATH from Monday to Friday. The morning shuttle begins at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 10:30 a.m. with the evening shuttle starting up at 4:30 p.m. and ending at 11:45 p.m.
The Green Line runs to the Light Rail and 8th Street Elevator located near Jersey City Heights. Unlike the Blue Line, this shuttle is an evening shuttle running from 4:30 p.m. to 11:45 p.m.
The Stevens website has maps and schedules for each shuttle and there is an app available on both Apple and Android for the residential shuttle named TransLoc Rider, which tracks the shuttle in real time. The Blue and Green Line shuttles should make an appearance on the app in the upcoming weeks.
