Hoboken breaks ground on new resilience park

On Jan. 31, the city of Hoboken celebrated the groundbreaking of the 700 Jackson development project, to be located at 700 Jackson street. The park is being promoted as the second of three resilience parks, which are designed to mitigate flooding in the surrounding area. Rain gardens, permeable pavement, and underground chambers will be utilized to collect and store up to 450,000 gallons of runoff. The park is also intended to be a recreational area, with amenities such as public seating, a play area, and a large plaza for vendors. A public gymnasium, parking garage, and residential housing are also being constructed.

The Southwest Park, under construction since this past summer, and the Northwest Park, currently in the planning phase, are joining the 700 Jackson development in Hoboken’s efforts to reduce flooding around the city, and to increase the amount of open space. The completion date of the 700 Jackson park has not yet been announced.
