The common thread

To think that my freshman year of college is essentially over is mind blowing. It feels as if it were yesterday that I was dropped off for orientation, both excited and a bit nervous for what was to come. As the days, weeks, and months went by I became more set into a routine that worked for me and allowed me to succeed. Along the way, I made many good friends and saw that we are all working together for a common goal: graduation. Whether as freshmen we would be graduating in four or five years, we all knew that in order for us to reach our common goal, we would need to work together through both the good times and the bad times to succeed. Whether that meant going to countless Calculus, Differential Equations, Chemistry, and Mechanics reviews or staying in the library until 2 o’clock in the morning finishing Design projects or written math homework, we all know how to work together to finish our work on time. Through this common thread, we all have begun to learn the importance of working together as a team. Through this all things are possible.

Looking back, this past year has been a whirlwind of events that I am glad that I have been a part of. From joining different organizations on campus to getting involved in a club sport, I certainly tried to make the most of my first year at Stevens. From being elected to the Honor Board and writing for The Stute to playing club lacrosse and finding time to participate in various tech conferences across the country, I am surprised that I have had the time over the past two semesters to keep up with my work. This, of course, is a part of life that we all have to deal with and I am happy to say that I have learned to find a nice balance through it all. Even writing this column has given me greater insight into my life and I am grateful that I had the opportunity to write this year. Little did I know just one year ago that I would have been a columnist, and I never thought that I would have the chance to be one. To everyone who takes the time to read my column, I thank you for putting up with my ramblings and insights into the inner workings of a “mind of a freshman.”
