NY Fashion Week – A Glimpse at Next Season!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! No, I’m not having a Christmas relapse, it’s fashion week! Everyone else might be pining for warmer weather, but the big names in fashion are already thinking about next fall/winter. You won’t find any complaints here either; fall fashion is what I live for. So what can we expect for the next cold season?

Starting with my homeboy Tommy, the Fall Tommy Hilfiger collection isn’t bringing about any radical changes, but everyone loves the classic preppy, nautical look. The premier outfits featured silky, flirty dresses with bows and peter pan collars, some of which were accented with Breton stripes and patterns inspired by sailor’s tattoos. Speaking of the high seas, flared sailor pants were in, as well as button up skirts. Jackets were one of the main focuses too, which were typically navy blue, double-breasted with gold trim and buttons. There were also blouses with sailor collars, more Breton stripes and sequins everywhere!

The Michael Kors collection echoed some of the smaller details like sequins, peter pan collars and tie-front blouses. What stood out the most to me in this collection were the unique sleeve styles of the shirts and coats. Most of the shirtsleeves were long enough to cover the model’s hands, and they all sported some sort of contrast detailing on the cuffs whether they be color-blocked, fur-lined or worn unbuttoned with a layer underneath. Among the typical tans, greys and whites for winter, there were also pops of periwinkle purple and grass green used for sweaters, jacks and blouses.

The Tory Burch collection was really exciting. A mixture of geometric, color-blocked patterns in deep fall colors made a bold statement. There were sweaters in oversized, argyle prints, patchwork coats and skirts with thick stripes of red, brown, and navy. Bright, solid colored pants in Kelly green, red or white were the staples in many outfits, usually paired with navy, leather boots. There were also a few more subdued outfits featuring a navy, lilac and grey color palette. Many pieces also featured a new floral pattern consisting of a navy base with small, yellow, white and green buds. The tie-front blouse also sneaked its way into this collection.

Rag and Bone marched their men’s line down the catwalk on the opposite side of their women’s collection while a live band played. Both featured canvas coats and parks in army greens, with baggy pants and combat boots for a sporty look. The men’s line also featured what can only be described as a leather tracksuit. Many of the outfits were all black but shiny materials added texture and interest. My favorite pieces were the long, grey, double-button coats that would work well for dressing up or going out.

Rodarte was all about texture and layering. The models wore tall, ruffled sandals; sheer lace dresses with ruffled trims and belted leather jackets also with leather, ruffle trim. To keep warm in their barely-there ensembles, the models were buried in fluffy fur coats with streaks of pink, red, yellow and white. DKNY, on the other hand, was anything but delicate. Baggy layers and slouchy silhouettes created an androgynous look. The girls wore slouchy pants and boxy white button-downs with chunky lace-up boots. The color palette was very muted, mostly black and white with a bit of wine red.
