Inauguration held for SGA President Hunt and cabinet

After serving as a senator since his freshman year, Matthew Hunt was sworn in as the new SGA President. Family and friends of the Stevens community joined him in celebration on Wednesday, January 28 at Walker Patio and for refreshments in the Babbio Atrium. Vice President Vincent Raimondi and cabinet members Emily Noonan (CCSI), Patrick MacLane (Treasurer), and Jessica Smith (Secretary) were also inaugurated.

President Hunt is an active student in the Stevens community, including participation in club volleyball, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Stevens Honor Board,  Gear and Triangle, Alpha Sigma Phi, and Alpha Phi Omega. Vice President Raimondi is a member of the Student Faculty Alliance, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Gear and Triangle, Sigma Phi Epsilon, a Resident Assistant and a Teaching Assistant.

IMG_0125Former SGA president Kristen Romanowski was very excited for the new cabinet. She stood by Hunt while he took the oath of office conducted by Mark Scalzo, now Speaker of the Senate. Hunt thanked Romanowski and her cabinet for facilitating the major transition. Right behind Hunt at the ceremony were Vice President Raimondi, Treasurer MacLane, and Secretary Smith.

It is clear that Hunt and Raimondi understand their new responsibility to serve. During his speech, Hunt stated, “Our school is unique in that we bring in much more money than a lot of other schools.” The two have already redefined committees and appointed new committee heads, in addition to past successes allocating funds to club sports. Raimondi promises to do everything in his power to help clubs reach their maximum potentials. They look forward to working with many student leaders.

The new cabinet members plan to make sure that the SGA stays true to their roots. They aim to better understand the student body. “I want to make sure that we continue to commit to finding out what the students want, and doing everything in our power to make it happen,” said Hunt. He encourages students to take action and to tell their senators what they would like to see.
